Marching through Madness with Yard House Pub Fare Menu

I was gifted a meal experience courtesy of Yard House. All opinions are my own.

Yard House has been celebrating a special Pub Fare Menu for March Madness featuring Irish-inspired dishes and drinks specially created by Chef Carlito Jocson. This limited menu is ending April 8th so Tony and I were excited to try it out before it was gone!

I also just learned yesterday that while I thought it was just Fenway that had a location, Yard House is actually in about 80 locations across the country and started in California, not Boston. Look at dat! You learn something new every day.

We ordered an app first, their new featured item Poke Nachos. It wasn’t on the Pub Fare Menu but I couldn’t tear my eyes from something that combines my two life staples, nachos and poke. Yes, they are served on Fried Wontons!

I also tried the whiskey margarita and I gotta say, I didn’t think it would but it worked! The mix was a little more sour but blended well with the whiskey.

Our next app was the Whiskey black pepper wings. The only debate – wings or legs? Def the wings for me.

Next, I ordered the Salmon for my main course. It had a light Whiskey glaze with option to add more on the side which I loved. The salmon was pairs with kale, cabbage and bacon mashed potatoes. I may need to try this mashed potato combo at home or maybe go to Yard House

Tony went for the grilled GUINNESS Cheddar & braised beef melt served with tomato bisque. I snuck in some bites and definitely double dipped with no apologies.

Yard House Soup

My only regret is that I wasn’t able to try the Shepard’s Pie & Mash because I was too full and Tony commits blasphemy by not liking lamb. It features ground lamb simmered in stout beer with herbs, peas and potatoes, baked inside a flaky pastry crust and topped with parmesan mashed potatoes, brandy-shallot gravy and parsley.

So do me a favor, check it out before it’s gone after this weekend!

Myers + Chang Lunch & Burgerpalooza

If I was in charge of life, I would make every weekend a 3 day weekend.

Anyways thanks to a certain holiday I had Monday off from work and off from running.  I figured after running down 73 miles I deserved a complete day off.  Instead I watched several episodes of Dexter (productive) and got to meet a friend for lunch at Myers + Chang.

But first I had a craving…

Dunkin Toast Almond coffee, black.  Ever since my office moved locations I never get Dunkin anymore so when I walked past a Dunkin in 20 degree weather I felt a small wave of nostalgia.  This was also my first time ordering a small.  I’m at a point where if I drink coffee in the afternoon I can’t sleep at night… Lame I know but since I didn’t really need to be that awake, I went for the small.

Now back to my fabulous lunch at Myers + Chang. an Asian inspired eatery in the South End.  I’ve walked by this place hundreds of times and I always saw happy people chowing down on their meals.  Its been on my to eat list for a while but when hunger comes I have always gone somewhere else until now.

Inside the decor reminded me of other fusion inspired ramen type bars, open, modern, white chairs, long bar area, cozy but sleek. Staff seemed friendly and nice.

Myers + Chang

We started with the braised pork buns that were absolutely melt in your mouth perfection…

Myers + Chang Ramen

Being that it was absolutely freezing outside, we also each got a bowl of shrimp & tofu ramen with kyushu noodles, scallion butter, nori, egg.  The broth was heavy and lemony but perfect for the weather!

Other things consumed this weekend?

BurgerPalooza.  Hey, when you’re running 73 miles, a girl’s gotta eat.  My friends hosted an annual Burgerpalooza.  The top left is a sample of all the toppings we had.  The bottom two are my burgers.  First one is beef with spinach, mushrooms, cheddar, guacamole  tomatoes, and a little bit of spicy mayo.   The second one on the right is an emu burger with guacamole  sprouts, spicy mayo.  I’ve never had emu before but it was actually very tender and lean as long as I try to pretend that it’s not a silly but kinda cute bird.

Burger Ice Cream Cake

And yes there was burger ice cream…

And yes as you can see I’m almost healed from my teeth removal and am back to chewing!  THANK GOD!!!!

Jack in a bag

And yes because every post should end on a cat photo..

Tell me about your weekend? Any running?  Any eating?

Taiwan Cafe – Brunch Taiwanese Style

A friend sent me an email asking if I wanted to get brunch? Of course!  Do I want to get Taiwanese brunch? Even better!

Going to Chinatown restaurants is always an adventures.  You got some of the best mixed up with the will I really regret this meal rest.  However, one thing I’ve learned to trust when it comes to Chinatown dining is word of mouth.  If my friend was telling to check out this place, it was worth going to!

Taiwan Cafe 2

The first dish we got was porridge and a bowl of sweat soy milk.  On the right are some garlicky sauteed veggies.  Bottom left is a churros like thing and the left bottom is a sesame pancake that you wrap around the churros thing.  Top half was good but the churros and sesame pancake was a disappointment   One wasn’t oily enough while the other felt like it’s been re fried   Not sure if that’s the norm but can’t say I was into them.

Taiwan Cafe 1

This photo shows all my favorites of the brunch.  Tofu dish, scallion pancake with minced meat, dough balls with minced meats and my guide and ordering wench Lynn!

The scallion pancakes with meat inside were my favorite followed by a close second of the tofu with veggies and a mild dark sauce.  Although not a traditional breakfast, it was great to spend time with some friends before my 10 mile run in the evening.

Boston Burger Company – Most Insane Burgers

Yesterday I ran 21 miles, it was long, boring but had to be done.  I’ll go more into detail in the weekly recap post but figured I’ld whine about the unshoveled sidewalks and cold as a side-note.  I seriously contemplated running with a dozen eggs and egging any house that didn’t shovel their sidewalk, extra eggs for any business.

Anyways, anger leads to hunger and I had a crazy craving for greasy pub food.  After a failed first attempt at a diner/theater with a broken projection lamp we end up in Davis Square’s Boston Burger Company. Now I don’t generally eat burgers or even meat but when a craving calls, I prefer to respond to it properly.

Boston Burger Company Signature Burgers

Upon entering the wall is decorated with descriptions of their signature burgers.  My mouth started salivating right away.

Boston Burger Company Chilli Cheese Fries

We started with an order of chili cheese fries with jalapenos   I was really craving nachos but sadly that wasn’t an option.

Boston Burger Company Hot Mess

I ordered the Hot Mess – which in between a giant burger, cheese, dressing had bacon and sweet potato fries and honestly who knows what else.  It was awesome and I’m sad to admit I only made it 60% through but I had a few bites of Tony’s 420 burger as well so let’s call it 68% with a good chunk of chili fries and the awesome chips to call it almost even.  My stomach just isn’t as stretchy as it used to be I guess.

Boston Burger Company 420 Burger

420 Burger – If you’re wondering what is all that?  It’s a whole lot of BBQ sauce with mozzarella sticks, mac & cheese bites, bacon, fries, onion rings and bacon.  I would call this an artery clogger but they have a burger specifically with that name as well.  With each bite you never knew what you’ll get and Tony did a splendid job eating it and holding it together.

Boston Burger Company Killer Bee

Killer Bee – bacon and a stack of beer battered onion rings.

Boston Burger Company Experience

Although not something I would regularly go to, it’s worth checking out!  And if you can finish your full burger, I send my props to you.  Tony got 90% done with his and it was a ton of effort.

Fro Yo Davis Square

And because eating artery clogging burgers just isn’t enough we decided that although we do not deserve any ice cream after that meal, we should still go for fro-yo instead.  A fair compromise if you ask me.

What’s your favorite burger place?  I have a confession mine a turkey avocado salsa one from BGood in Boston followed by an Angus from McDonald’s
